I know its a tough thing to decide on this may be due too much confusing and overloaded information about this topic over the net and different websites.
Let me clarifies few facts which will get answers for most of the users: NO matter where you buy policy from US or non US ( TataAIG/ Bajaj, etc etc) , there are always 2 types of plan : A ) Limited Coverage Plan ( all major expenses and their covered fixed cost is predefined in policy) example , To visit a Dr . up to 50$ . Hospital admit : up to 100$ per day for max N number of days .. etc etc Now if you see practically the actual charges may be more and all those needs to paid from your pocket. B) Comprehensive Coverage Plan : These plans have better coverage and works like PPO plan, where you have to pay co-payment and deductible but generally coverage is 80%-20% means insurance company pay 80% of expenses in most cases and you pay 20% even if you go out of their network. If you go to there network you may not to pay any thing except the copay. Facts about Pre-existing coverage. No short term company/plan can practically cover the pre-existing condition for many reason and logically for a short term insurance where a visitor pays premium for 3-6 months and claim much more ( high chances for a person to get sick or hospitalized due to critical pre-existing diseases like Blood pressure etc) Though you may find some posting and information on the net about few plans which covers with some IF and But conditions ...But I will suggest everyone to must call the provider and ask specific questions and take that in writing ..Don’t just consider the policy because someone says it covers Pre-Existing conditions. Also : read this article will help you a lot : http://www.path2usa.com/insurance/vmi_plan_types.htm and http://www.path2usa.com/insurance/vm...rs_dilemma.htm Do not get too much confused there are only 2 type of choice available, so make your decision based on what type of plan will be suitable for the visitor based on his/her health etc, First thing you should decide is TYPE of PLAN. and second thing is Which Company or what PLAN NAME... If you are planning to buy from US plans then one thing is sure that service will be better and you get your claim if it’s in the policy. if any one still have specific questions, feel free to post here and we shell try to answer with my best of knowledge.
