Default ICICI Lombard - Oversees Travel Insurance

My parents plan to get the Oversees insurance from ICICI Lombard office in Bombay.
The coverage says $100,000. I have not seen the brochure etc. so I am not sure
how this insurance works.

Has anyone used this or has any details like deductible, daily max, hospital/ER coverage ?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Seema

Lightbulb Overseas Insurance

Hello Seema,
Regarding your question, firstly if you purchase insurance from India, they will ask you to make the medical payments here and get the money re-imbursed when you get back; in case of exceptionally high bills it can be a problem. The advantage of buying insurance in the USA is bypassing this problem as the hospital is directly paid by the insurance.
Secondly, you can get various quotes and buy insurance plans online from the USA or abroad. You can customize and choose plans as per your requirement, some plans like the one you mentioned are cheap but I advise to read the brochures and fine lines very carefully. The cheaper plans are very limited coverage but are good for people of a higher age.
Thanks.

This is not true any more. All new private insurance providers in India like Tata AIG, ICICI lombard etc. do not require you to pay here and then get the amount reimbursed. The only hitch is that these guys take a long time to close the claim with the hospital / doctor. So if you have a visitor with an insurance from these guys, ensure that you do not give your name or address and all details provided to the hospital be limited to the insureds details.

Default Correction to the above

What I said applies only to hospitalizations. I believe you have to pay upfront for all other expenses.
