I have read all the messages posted regarding the best insurance that can be taken. It is also quite clear that visitors will not be covered for any pre-existing conditions. My parents are visiting me next week and I am researching on the insurance. Both of them are diabetic patients and so I am a bit concerned.
My concern is will they be covered if I need to take them to the clinic for say a fever or some kind of viral infection like Flu . Also any information on the kind of expenses incurred for such medications would be useful. So what type of ailments come under the pre-existing conditions category? Thanks, |

Insurance companies look for things mentioned in the doctor's notes. If the doctor writes something to the effect that this has been occurring since (date before insurance started), insurance will deny payment saying it is preexisting condition. Also, if doctor infers that the flu/fever is a result of diabetes (unlikely), insurance will not cover it. My mother has diabetes and my concern will be if, say, she has a fall and breaks a leg, and she mentions "dizziness" to the doc and her blood glucose comes out of range in her blood test (most likely, since she is diabetic), I am sure the insurance company will say that the fracture is an indirect result of diabetes, and hence, will not cover it.
