H1B FICA tax
I just found out that as an H1B employee I have to pay FICA tax (social security) even though I am not elegible to be a beneficiary (my visa is for a maximum of 6 years). Also, that the money you pay goes to a fund (not to an individual account). The presumption is that you are a potential immigrant (even when you are on a
non-immigrant visa!).
This situation annoyed me because it means 7.65% of my salary for all the time I maintain an H1B status is going nowhere. I wonder if there is something that can be done about it, and if other H1B employees have done
it. Thank you for your contributions!
