Default US payroll & working outside US - Taxable or not ?

Hi,

I am on H1B and my employer is in USA. I was sent on a project outside USA for almost the entire calendar year. I was in the USA only for a total of 10 - 12 days in the year. My salary was getting deposited in the US.

1. Do I have to pay Tax in the USA for this work performed outside of USA ?

2. I read in the IRS website that, Tax needs to be paid in the country of "Source of Income". And as a definition of "Source of Income", they say it is the place where the "Service for getting this Income was performed... irrespective of where the money is deposited".

Can anyone throw some light on this ? If anybody has experience in getting Tax benefits like this... can u pls tell the Tax consultant u contacted ?

Thanks n' regards / ram
