Default 1099 Tax on OPT

Hi,

I am on OPT(Optional Practical Training) which is a one year VISA granted for F1 students after their graduation that allows them to work for any US employer for a year.

I am working with a company on a short-term project and my employer has suggested to go for 1099 Tax.
I have been earning since May and there has been no tax deductions so far. I am supposed to file my tax(1099) for this year by my own by the end of this year.

I wanted if I must pay the social security and medicare taxes considering:
1.I should not pay social security taxes since I am on OPT.
2.I am filing 1099.

Could someone guide on what tax I must pay.

I appreciate any help.

Thanks
