Default TAX

First , All it matters where your employer is

1.if u live in X state but employer in Y State, most of the times u will prepare for Y state unless u have some other income in X state.
2.some time employer change u r pay roll to X state then u have to prpepare for X state.
3.If you worked for both X and Y staes then apply for both.

Either way u will get different W2's.If not just apply for the one u get.Do what is mentioned in in your W2.that is the safe

The best don't rely on me .call any tax prepareing offfices like hr block etc , ask them , sure they will help
