Default Calif income tax: spouse has no SSN/ITIN

My wife has an H4 visa and therefore has no SSN. To file her taxes she needs an ITIN. As per new IRS regulations, we will apply for her ITIN at the same time as filing our federal 1040. (1040 and Application For ITIN will go in the same envelope to IRS).

But what should we do while filing the California state tax? In absence of SSN/ITIN, what should we put down in the section "spouse's SSN" on california state tax return?

Default apply

Submit w7 and make a copy of that doc, attach it with your tax forms. Leave the SSN box empty. You can also write a small note in piece of paper, sign both you and your wife.Attach with tax doc
