Hi ,
My wife got a H1b permit(new) while she is on H4 currently. What are the steps to change the status from H4 to h1b? Does she need to goto India for status change? any alternatives?
thanks
If your approval for the H-1B granted a change of status, you can begin work immediately. You will need to get the stamp in your passport before reentering the U.S. the next time you travel abroad. You can get it stamped either in your home country, Mexico, or Canada

Hello friends,
My situation is also similar to this thread. My question is, 1.Can I mail the documents to Canada to get H1(converted from H4 3 years back) stamped.
2. What are the chances of rejecting the Visa stamping, (if any,) in India, If I try there personally, as I have to go to India which can't be avoided.
Can you please help me out here with your valuable answers.

--- No, you have to personally go and get it stamped.

--- There are always some chance of rejections. But if you take all the documents you should be fine.

Thanks for your reply Serta. But now a days we hear lot of stories of rejections. What could be the possible rejections. I mean under what circumstances they reject.
Our case is we were converted three years back and since then with same company as a permanent status. Do you think we are worrying a lot. What kind of documents we need to carry. Please reply soon.

I guess the main reason of rejections would be the applicant had been out of status, or could not submit some documnets that the embassy wanted (documents like pay slip, or company finacials). From whatever you have written I think your case looks pretty straightforward and you should not be worying. You can submit the applicatin through 'drop box', and should not have trouble in geting the visa.
