These forums have helped me a lot and wanted to share my experience
Residing in the US, we are from chennai, Wife took H4 appointment for 7th year extension in New Delhi. She went alone to the interview (Baby stayed at hotel room). There is no confusion in this, it clearly says on the website. People Resident in the US (and can speak English) can take appiontment in ANY of the four consulates. Persons returning from work (H1) and need to go back immediately qualify for emergency appointment.
Document list is the same run-on-the-mill lists alerady published (I took as mentioned in immihelp.com) nothing more, nothing less. split in 3 sets of files
1. is the reqd ones (passport, application forms, I797, DDs) in 2 (payslips, employment letter, bank letter etc) in 3 (w2, 1040, wedd album)
VFS counter looked all docs and DDs and gave back PP, I797 stapled with Rs. 2200 Dd. Wife finger printed and waited. the interview
(not sure if pleasanteries were exchanged)
VO was bit old and not in that good a mood. the candidates before my wife had some issues (missing docs. or something) and they had also ticked her off.
In DS157, in Q9. I put NA
VO: you are already in the US, how come you put NA there...., she itself corrected.
VO: can i see your husbands last valid visa?
wife : showed the "last valid" visa
VO : Where is your hushand
wife : xxx state
vo : who is his employer
wife : yyy
vo : can i see the employer verification letter?
wife : showed it to her.
vo : so where is ur baby now
wife : in hotel with mom
vo : she is US citizen right?
wife : yes.
vo: you will get your visa in two days.
wife : i believe we can collect the PP by 3:00 PM
(its mentioned on the vfs site you can)
vo: you will get your visa in two days.
Thats it. we DID get the visa in 2 days.
Prepare the documentaion to the last detail. NO NEED TO WORRY. Be cool.
