Hi

My mom has just arrived in the US a few weeks back. She has travelled to England and Australia before and this is her first visit to the United States.
She has a 10 year multiple entry visa to the US.On her arrival at NY the imigration officer interviewed her for good one hour asking all sorts of questions about her previous visits to Australia and London, her purspose of travel to all these countries and her education and profession. It was only after she said that shes a professor in Delhi University and her purpose of visit to US and all the other countries is purely tourism they granted her 6 months stay but even then the officer closed the conversation by saying " We recommend that you leave US before or on 15th April and then you may come back again"

At this point I am still confused whether its a good idea applying for her extension or not?
Do they keep a record of the entire conversation? or do they flag people who were questioned more than the others. The interveiw was that long that she even missed her connecting flight to Dallas.

Your adivce and opinions are higly appreciated and will help me make a decision.

Thanks

It is never a good idea to apply for extension of visitor visa. Who knows they may or may not have the record of all the conversations.

My advice to you is, stop worrying about extension and try to enjoy the little time that you have with your mother here. Consider yourself lucky compared to thousands of those people who's parents visa's have be rejected.

Since she has 10 year multiple visa she can always come back. Going back on time is also going to ease her entry next time.

Agree with Prathibha. For some reason they don't like extensions. In case you do apply for extension later on, keep photocopies of all the paperwork and new i94 . Otherwise a few years from now you will be frantically searching for it -- just see the number of people posting here who have run into problems after having lost those papers! ;-)

I really appreciate your veiws on extension.. but my only concern is that we will be moving to Australia for good as our immigration is in process and she may never visit US again after this trip.

Her easy entry in the second trip may not happen at all as she may not return to US if we leave.Shes enjoying her stay here but I thought it'll be a better idea to collect some info on her extension beforehand.

Thanks once again and your opinions are welcomed. :)
