Visitors Visa-Passport validity

Yesterday on viewing the passports of my sons I found that the passports have expire date as 19.09.2006. I plan to visit US in the first week of April 06 and return in first week for June 06. Will I have problem. Can I schedule a interview in Jan 06(mumbai) with this passport and then get the passport renewed in a month and go with the new passport for the interview. OR I have to first get the new passport and then schedule the appointment.

As per the General guidelines- passport should be valid byond six months from the date of visa application.
However while you travel internationl some airlines insist on a valid passport to allow you to chekin.
So Better to get the passport renews beforre applying for the visa if possible.

Thanx murali for the reply. I have send my sons passport for renewal which might take about a month so I will not be able to take even interview appointment without the passport. Kindly let me know whether it is advisable to go in of visa for myself and husband as the dec 05 first week are available(mumbai center) and on receiving sons passport schedule for their interview. I already have 6 mths visa stamping in feb 03. At the time of interview I will be having their passports too in hand. Do you foresee any problem... ...
