Can we sponsor Visitor visa with H1B Receipt Number.

Hi,

My mother has got Visa Appointment on Oct 31st. And I have changed my employer so, I got H1 receipt number. but, H1 is not approved yet. Can I sponsor Visitor visa for my mom on H1 receipt or is it risky to do so. Please let me know if anyone faced the same situation. My husband also on H1 and he can sponsor too. Can we both sponsor for my mom.

If your husband is also on H1, it would be a good idea to let him sponsor your mother's visit. It would eliminate the risk involved with filing with just receipt no.. Also, if your husband has been working here for more number of years, he might be able to show more W2s which is another plus.

I recently got visa for my parents. Though I have been working for almost 2 years (and have only one W2), we decided that my husband should sponsor as he has been around for more number of years.

Thanks for your reply. I am working for the past 4 years almost the same period as my husband. I checked with my attorney she suggested that we both can jointly sponsor the visa. I will ask my husband to sponsor the visa. and I will also send a set of documents of mine in case they ask. Your suggestion is valuable.
