Any inputs about buying used hyundai cars (elantra / sonata ) ?
Are they good - as in reliable to drive, maintenance free etc ?

Is it worth going for a 3 yr old Elantra/Sonata, 40,000 miles, for around $10K-11K ?

Anyone who owns/has owned these cars ... can you please give me your opinion about these cars?

Thanks,
A

been having it since 3 yrs. No problems. I have the 4 door 1997 accent though.. got it for 3500 @45k miles. Right now it is 90k miles. Did the regular servicings, low insurance @400 and great mileage averages 31-32.. /mile.

I find it unsafe for long term use but my commute is 8 miles and seems to work, not planning to get another car soon. Looks like it might buy me a couple more years.

Cozy, comfortable , clean and neat. And great bucket seats. Dun't tend to tire on long journeys.

I'm not sure I would buy another one again though. But it's better than my other car which I paid 4 times above this car for.

So, is it that the car is more or less OK for short daily commutes, but not so good for long drives ?

Any particular reasons why you may not go for a Hyundai again ? Is it something to do with car or is it because of your changed requirements ?

I've had a 2005 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback for some time now and have done close to 2,000 miles on it. Amazing car. Its got the best high end features that a similarly priced corolla lacks (Leather, Traction control, Premium sound, moon roof, excellent warranty & roadside assistance, 138 HP engine etc etc etc). The car is amazingly smooth to drive and has dual airbags standard. Also in the recent tests it received 5star frontal crash test and 4star side impact ratings which are very good.

The only gripe is that the city fuel economy is bad compared to corolla/civic. Its advertised as 24MPG and I get around 27-28 MPG. On highway I get around 32-33MPG. I got the hatch back and was able to transport a twin bed, boxspring, 20" TV, Coffee Table and 2 side tables all in one go. Its a versatile vehicle. And all this under 15,000 (Title, Tax and Registration included). I'm really in luv with this car. And I also got a good deal on the monthly payments at 253.20 $ for 60 months even though my credit history wasn't all that gr8.

I would definitely buy a hyundai again and would recommend it 500% in place of a second hand car.
