Hi

My parents are bringing some foodstuff- sweets, pickles from India.
On the customs form- do they write 'yes' for the question 'are you bringing food, plants from india?' One of my friends said to write 'no' but then if they open bag and see, they would be lying.

Is it ok to write' yes'?

I did bring some food stuff the last time I came back from India. It is ok to write a 'no' on the customs form and make sure that there is no tell-tale signs that warrants a bag search. What I mean is, make sure everything is sealed and there is no leakage. The main culprit is the pickle oil, which leaks no matter what. I had it packed in four layers, but it leaked within the pack, and luckily did not get on any clothes and get on the outside of the bag.!!! Even the sweets, do not place the cardboard box they come in directly in the bag, make sure they are wrapped up in couple of plastic bags and taped well.
Custom officials would be more concerned if you brought live plants, fruits, and raw meat.
