birth certificate

Hi,
I know that birth certificate of the sponsers is not mandatory but just an extra document in case needed.
So here can we send just copies or is it necessary to send the originals.

For Mumbai consulate carry the original is must and they some times ask to see it.
So If it is Mubai consulate better for them to carry the original if pssoible.
Make sure they get it back after the interview..
