Hello,
My parents went for visa this morning(to Chennai office) as his son-in-law was sponsoring them for visit purpose and their passports and visa acceptance fees were collected from them by the Officer. But their Visitor Visa is Pending as officer asked my Dad to fill out a questionaire and submit it to Chennai office through E-Mail.
Basically this is what happened:
1) My Dad is a Retired Professor of computer science from Govt. college, but is working as Professor in private engg college.
2) Officer asked my dad about his areas of research interest, the subjects he teaches as a Professor etc.(which was not related to travel as they were visiting their daughter and son-in-law as tourist)
3) Finally towards the end of their conversation, Officer gave him a form(questionaire list) and asked my dad to complete those questions and submit it in a weeks time, and was told that they would issue their visa once he submits the questionaire.
4) They didn't ask any questions to my Mom.
Did anyone come across such a situation? What does this scenario mean? How soon can he get his passport visa stamped once he submits the questionaire in a weeks time.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA, PLEASE RESPOND. I am totally CONFUSED.

Any Indian citizen who has worked in sensitive areas of research such as nuclear, medical research, etc has to go through an additional background check, to make sure they are visiting for tourist purposes only, dont worry, based on the interview the officer felt that he needs some more information from him, so it should not be a problem, just wait he will get his passport with the visa in it once they check his background out.

Hello there,
This is what is in the questionaire form which they have provided!!! Actually, my parents were coming to US just for Visit on a tourist purpose and his son-in-law and myself were sponsoring them. But we really don't know why this form was given to my Dad though he tried to convey that he was coming on a Visit.
But when asked him about his reasearch work (since he is a Prof. in Computer Science), my Dad did mention about his reasearch work which he had done in the Past.
Do you think, may be the Officer was confused??
Now how do we prove that they are coming here only for Visit Purpose and NOT for any Research work?? Any ideas or Suggestions are most WELCOME. Pls. help!
