Hi Friends,

Today , i read a news in Hindustantimes.com .Following is the enws , i read.
**************************************
The proposed Citizenship Reform Act, introduced in the US Congress last month, aims at denying American citizenship to children born to illegal immigrants.

The purpose of this act is to deny automatic citizenship at birth to children born in the United States to parents who are not citizens or permanent residents.

Under current law, any child born in the country can claim American citizenship.

Supporters of the bill believe that this may control the number of people from claiming citizenship and the rights and benefits that come with it.

According to the Center for Immigration Studies, a policy and research group that advocates for stricter immigration controls, an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 children are born to illegal immigrants in the United States each year.

However, the citizenship bill alone will not resolve the country's illegal immigration problem, Steven Camarota, Director of research, Center for Immigration Studies, said in a report.

According to this , i understood that a child born to Non-immigrant visa holders will not get US citizenship . Parents have to apply their home country citizenship to the new Born. Is my understanding correct or not?

Please clarify

Thank You

1) This is only a proposal, the bill has not passed. Will not really pass due to the Latino vote base etc

2) The term non-immigrant visa holder and illegal immigrant (authorized stay expired/ got into the country without inspection) are NOT the same.

3) Visa holders are legally staying in the US and their children will not be denied citizenship as they have not broken any immigration laws.
