Thanks to Murali & other experts for the valuable advice. I have one more question.
My mother has come before to USA before in 1997, stayed for six months and left before the expiration. Now, both my parents are planning to come.
In the afifidavit of asurance mentionied here:
http://www.path2usa.com/immigration/visitorvisa/requirments.htm
Should they mention that she has come here once before and left in the allotted time or will this only cause problems?
Any pointers appreciated. Thanks

One more question:
I have one brother who is married and has one daughter. Should my parents add this in the affidavit saying they have one son / daughter-in-law and a grand daughter dependent on them? To be honest, my brother's daughter is being taken care by my parents as both my brother & sister-in-law go to work? Should that be mentioned? Please let me know. Thanks!

Your parents can claim someone as dependent only in cases like, they have an unmarried son or daughter and explain social ties.If they claim their grand daughter as dependent ,I don't think thats a good idea.
Well the little one has her parents alive ,why should she be dependent on your parents?Did you mean that they babysit her while your Brother & SIL go to work.
In that case, chances are that the officer might think they are coming her to babysit your son/daughter here. That will actually have a negative effect to the overall process.

saras, thanks for your response.
In our parents case, they really don't have any dependents back in India. So, my question is really: Is there a need for Affidavit for assurance from them if they are going to just say "I will come back in a short time etc". I understand more documents won't hurt but this is something I wanted to clarify.
Murali, saras, other experts, any pointers appreciated. thanks

Yes, you can certainly add what ever logical reasoning you think can makes your case strong . in that affidavid of assurance or letter to consulate.
Hope this helps..
