Hi
My mom is visiting me in the USA and is with me now.I have extended her stay past 6 mths to another 5 mths now.Unfortunately during this process when we were about to extend her traveler's insurance, she got sick with kidney stones and I had to take her to the ER.
Her medical bills came around 10 K and after they gave a little discount for uninsured status, the bills are now $5800. I am currently unemployed and dependent on my husband and with our new born baby its really hard for us.I now received letters from collection agency addressed to my mom. The hospital has no information on my mom's visa/passport or me except that I paid about $1200 upfront that day at the ER through credit card.

Can anyone advice as to whether if we ignore this, will my mom have any trouble when she tries to come next time.

I understand your situation.
It may not have any direct impact on her next visit, however it is advisable to settle the bills if possible. It will also give you a peace of mind.

Yes, please do speak to the billing department. Most hospitals have financial cousellors that can help you figure out a monthly payment plan.
We did the same when my MIL was hospitalized (she had insurance from India that settled a major chunk of the bill but there was still some 3k balance outstanding). We paid up the balance over a year. They were very understanding and supportive.
Hope your Mom is feeling better now.
