Hi
I am a univ employee with a H1..i have 2 kids and elder one is starting school from next month...the point is ....it was very expensive if i want to send them to Prek school...so were the day care costs...is it really all worth it?

trying to find some justification for that amount...before spending ..preK basically provide lunch and snacks...which costs few dollars...
whats you view and experience on this .....lets discuss..

i wud say it is a personal decision mostly.

school serves as a social platform for the kids esp in winter. also it keeps them occupied n gives them the chance to meet other kids.

if u hv any specific concerns do some research n find out more abt the school. most schools will allow u to provide lunch/snacks from home also. also some of them provide half day option if that works for u n it wud cost less money.

I agree with the PP, preK school is a very important social platform for kids. It's also a good launching pad to get them used to the idea of going to school full time and staying away from their parents for a bit. It can get a bit lonely and boring for the kids at home and by the time they're 3, they kind of need the stimulus of a school.
You could try to send your child for just 3 hours to start with; lots of school offer a 9am-12noon program; that way you feed your child breakfast at home and he's back in time for lunch and you pack a snack for him from home; it'll be a lot cheaper that have the child eat at school. You could also try to send him every other day instead of every day.
