Help: Finances required to be shown

I plan to visit the US on self-sponsorship. How much money should I show in my bank account during the visa interview? Will money invested in the stock market do?

Usually people will say that Sponsor should show 5000$ per person, which is good to book their tickets and other expenses required for travel and insurance.

Amount invested in stock cant be shown as we cant take out that amount for any expenses.
