Hi,
is it ok to get a open ticket (for return date) from India when coming here the first time on visitor's visa or it is preferable to get a booked return ticket?
Thanks

Well it depends upon u. If u think u r very much sure for ur date of return, book a return ticket. But if u think you may want to stay little longer, means not sure abt return date, go with open ticket. Hope this works 4 u.

It is better to have confirmed return ticket within the six month period (that is the usual time any visitor is allowed to stay). Coming with an open ticket will surely brings unwanted thoughts into CBP officers mind and it may be implied that the visitor's intention may be to stay longer. They may get a shortened length of stay which would be different otherwise.

I guess the only airlines which is up for open tickets is Air India these days....right ?...Anyways, I suggest you to get confirmed tickets.
I had a similar situation couple of months back and I got confirmed tiks.
Well, my parent's POE had been pretty smooth and the CBP officer didn't even ask them to show the return tiks...may not be the similar case with everyone...
Good Luck !
