Can I get Tourist visa if I have an H1B visa

Hello Friends

I have a H1B stamped on my passport. But I have not travelled on the visa yet as my employer is not able to find a suitable project for me.
I now need to travel to US to visit family and friends. Can I apply for a toursit visa even though I already have an H1B stamped.
In case I can apply for tourist visa to US, will my H1B be cancelled??

Please let me know your response ASAP as I am thinking of applying to US consulate so wanted to clear this doubt of mine.

Yes you can.
Your earlier existing Visa on passport can be voided before you get a new Visa stamp on your passport.
