B2 Extension Sumbission

My parents would like to have their B2 visa extended for another 5 months; however, we are not clear on whether they should submit the copies of return tickets showing the originally intended date of return or the new date by which they wish to leave?:confused: They purchased tickets with a maximum stay of 6 months and will need to buy new tickets if they are staying longer. I'm trying to understand if they need to do that now and risk wasting the tickets if they are not approved an extension, of if they can send the ones that they have in hand and show their original date of return.

In that case, you could probably get an itinerary from a travel agent and send that as a proof. My parents came on a BA ticket that is valid for 12 months and changed the return date on the tkt and sent that as a proof. But, in your case you may have to apply very early (before the 45 days) so as to get a reply to use the original tkt or to buy a new one way tkt.
