Hi all,
My mother is appearing for her visitor visa appointment for the second time in chennai consulate. The reasonf or first time rejection is 214(b). They did not look at any visitor documents and rejected by just asking two or three questions.
Can anybody( who got visa in second attempt) please tell me what changes should I make in the letter to consulate and other documents? Can she change the purpose of her visit this time?
Please let me know
Thanks,
Preetha.

Hi Preetha,
My parents were granted visa in their second attempt after rejection in first attempt under 214(b).It was a nerve-racking task to find out what to do differently second time around. So we just drafted a letter addressed to the consulate stating some strong reasons as to why my parents will return back, mentioning property,an unmarried son, lots of close relatives back in our hometown etc as evidence of my parents "strong ties" to their homeland. We had instructed our parents to immediately forward the letter to the counseler incase he asked what is diff this time. And we also prepared a statement of property (not an affidavit by CA)....showing my parents property in Rs. and dollars seperately. These were the only things we could think of.But in their second interview they were not asked, what is diff this time nor were they asked anything abt their ties back to India. The questions asked were very general( will be putting them in experience section). But since they took help from an agent ,the counselling provided by the agent boosted their confidence a lot and moreover this time they had opted for a translator. So ,Preetha I guess its luck combined with our parents confidence which plays a major role.

Hi Preetha,
Your mom can make changes in the DS-156 but be prepared to give a valid explanation for the changes. My parents changed the duration of stay from 4months to 10weeks,purpose of trip as "visiting daughter and tourism" instead of just tourism, and who will pay for ur trip as "tickets-self,other expenses -son-in-law" instead of just son-in-law.

Hello rkp2004,
Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate it.I am going to show my mother's ties back in India in the "letter to consulate" and hope for the best.
I did not understand one thing in your reply. You are aying. "We had instructed our parents to immediately forward the letter to the counseler incase he asked what is diff this time" .
Do you mean you sent the letter to the consulate before interview ?
Thanks,
Preetha

Hi Preetha,
No, we did not send the letter to the consulate directly,my parents had the letter with them and we had told them to give the letter to the counseler incase he wanted to know what was new this time. But this time the counseler did not look at ANY of the docs that my parents carried, not even the I-134.
All the Best to U and ur mom for the interview.
