desis in usa usually get a salary of around $6000 considering that he has a masters degree and sometimes an mba. i will now give the breakup of how much he can save considering that he is married with say one child.

uncle sam takes away about 30%............$1800 ( considering he has his house)

his house instalment...............................$1600

maintaince and property taxes..................$300

car instalment........................................ .$425 mid size car

car for wife ........say secondhand..............$100

car gas............................................... .....$200 for two cars

insurance....considering both above 25.......$150

grocery bill.............................................. .$300

tel elec gas..............................................$ 100

other expenses eating out..........................$250 nothing expensive.........lol

clothes and misc.......................................$150

the total comes to...................................$5375

so the saving is hardly.......600 dollars.............and consider a trip to india or anywhere in usa or europe u end up with nothing at all.

i think i have given realistic figures and most desis will agree to it........

at the same time after say 10 years of work a desi will make not more than $ 8500 as the salary increase is very low........................so the only way out is that ur wife has to work for some kind of savings and she has to be have a good job or else the kids daycare will eatup everything

so r we guys just staying here for nothing???

so come back home and i am sure that u will be well taken care of. now a days u get very good jobs around RS 70000 to RS 2 lakhs per month depending on ur experince.

i did that long back 20 years ago.........and doing excellent in business.......and u will too

come back and make india stonger..............jaihind!!!

parag,

I appreciate your spirit of love towards India. Yes, you seem to have given the figures correctly, but I would like to point out a few things.

a) The figures you have shown are quite misleading, as not everyone has a house and installment for 2 cars. So there is a lee way of extra $ 400-1000 saving here.
b) Big savings are a result of small starts. Even taking your savings figure of 600 / month, and multiplying it by 20-30 years, I can say a person can save a lot. We are not here to become millioniors overnight ! Also if you have a house the principal part of the payment is your saving. Not to mention the equity in the house. The real estate property value also should be taken into acount and this appreciates over years.
c) Living expenses in India too have gone through the roof. I'd love for you to show a breakdown of expenses in a city like Mumbai or Delhi.
d) Salary of 70 K to 2 lakhs as quoted by you, are still RARE in India.
e) Money alone is not the factor. The quality of life also matters. All the money cannot buy me clean air and safe and healthy environment.

Bottomline is it remains a persons own choice where or how he wants to live.

I completely agree with "Sertra" user. I am leaving here in USA for last 7 years and done a lot of saving while having a house with wife and kid.
