My visa has expired though my I-94 is still valid until Feb 2009.I am inviting my Parents-in-law coming oct . Would it be a problem because my Visa is expired although 797 and I-94 are still valid .

http://path2usa.com/immigration/visitorvisa/sponsor_documents.htm - There is a suggestion here but i dont really understand what renewed petition means here ? Is it I-94 itself or 797 ? would these 2 (unexpired) be good enough with the expired visa.

If you are a Visa holder Copies of your - Visa (H1/L1), H1 Approval Form (I-797), and I-94. (If visa has expired but has a renewed petition, a photocopy of the renewed petition.)

For people who are on work visa, they must have their work permit ( I797 green color visa approval) valid in order to be legally allowed to work in USA.
I94 alone is does not allow them to work in USA.
So If your work permit ( I797) is expired, your employer must have applied for its renewal, A copy of that renewal is what is means.
