A very basic question - since my case has never been complicated:

I have a H1-B stamped on my PP. The stamp is valid till April 2009. Am currently in India, after working for 3 years in the US.

I'll have to visit the US for a very short term (2 months), and am contemplating travelling on a B1 visa instead, since the company transfer formalities are too cumbersome, plus taxes etc. are also involved. If I visit the US on a B1, then all that doesn't arise (I'll be reimbursed in the form of overseas allowance by my company, plus the Indian salary will continue as is).

My question is - When I go to the consulate to get my B1 (Business) visa stamped, will they cancel my H1-B stamping? (by putting a "Cancelled without prejudice" stamp), or will the H1-B stamping be left as is?

In my opinion B1 and H1B are 2 different identities. At the time of your B1 visa stamp interview, please request VO not to cancel your H1B.
This is not a legal advice and wait for other experts opinion.
Good Luck
