Greetings and good day.
Please guide me if anyone know the procedure to adopt. My passport has been retained at Chennai consulate for clarification of the difference in my passport for the surname. In the passport of 2001 that was lost earlier in 2007, i used the fatehr's surname and in 2007 when i lost it i applied for another one and in the absence of the particulars i applied with my husband surname. I returned home and approached the Regional passport office and wanted to find out what went wrong and they explained me to pay penallty for suppression of the information and wanted the 2007 passport from the Chennai consulate. I made police report last year and i have received the certificate of police verification recently. i showed that to the passport office.
Why are they retaining my passport at the consualte. What do they want? Should i approach to have legal advice.
Please guide me. I want to pay the penality but unless the Original Passport is there the Passport office will not accept the penality and regularise the lapses. It seems they dont write to the consulate. They told us to tell them to send it to them or give it to us directly.
I am stuck. Please let me know.
