Once you are out of US for more than 2 years without a re-entry permit, your Green Card is VOID.

YOu have to apply a visitor visa which requires a legal US resident (temporary or permanent) as sponsor.

Hello,
Does this sponsor have to be the same person who sponsored earlier?(a relative) or can be non related sponsor to apply for a visitor visa.?
Is there any age bar to apply for a visitor visa?
Do I have to surrender my permanent residency card and security card since I am in India for the last 8 years? Is there any way I can make use of the security card if I go back to USA on visitor visa?
Thank you.

Actually, many prople visit the US each year and have no friends or relatives in the country. There is no requirement to have a "sponsor" in the US. Look at the USCIS and Department of State websites for comprehensive, official information about visiting.

The "security" card you reference is the social security card used for retirement benefits. It is of no use for identification or entry; it is only needed for employment. Please do not attempt to work using this card. It is illegal to work in any way while on a visitor visa.
