Hi,

My Spouse has not received her H1B for cap 2009 and we are exploring options to get her in F1 status for Studies so that she doesnt waste an yr and what if we didnt receive her H1B next yr too(cap 2010).

Please advice us the Pro's and Con's in this change,

we know the immediate change will be,

Change of Status from H4 to F1
when we visit india, she has to go for F1 stamping - which is always a mess since i am from chennai.
she will no more be my dependent.

Will she has to get her own Medical Insurance or she can claim my medical insurance which is provided by my employer since i am in H1B.

after 6months of F1 study, we were suggested for CPT where she can work, will that be a good option and what about opportunities in market and also i saw that CPT cancels OPT after 12months of full time CPT.

Please suggest us with your valuable advice.

Thanks a lot in advance and Appreciate your Precious time.

Regards,

Do not apply for any other status till you get a confirmed result from USCIS for this H-1B quota for the year 2009.

Further once she changes to F1 status and University will provide a insurance benefits for Student with lower premium. Check with Administration officer of the university where your spouse is applying for F-1 status.

Hereafter, H-1B quota for both masters and regular quota will be computer random selection.

I have a friend who has done double masters in US and applied for this year H-1B under Master quota, so far not selected for this year H-1B 2009. waiting for the result.
