Hi,
I had a query relating to money transfer from India to the US and so thought of posting the same in this mailing list.
Is there any way we could do online transfer of money from any Indian Bank to any Bank in the US?
Secondly, is there any limitation on the amount of cash(in US dollars)/travellers cheque that can be carried on your travel to the US? I heard that there is some limitation on the amount of Forex that can be allocated to a person in a year and so thought of raising this query here.
Kindly help provide me with the info, if you have any.
Best regards
Isha.

1) Yes you can do an online money transfer to US from India, if you have an US account.
2) There is no limitation on the money to bring to the US as long the money is of legal origin. You will have to declare Fincen150 form with CBP for any amount more that $10,000. Moreover this money is not subject to taxes.
Hope this helps.

If anyone has actually transferred money from India to USA online, please share your experiences.
Please mention the name of the bank in India, maximum limit, reasons given for transfer, various forms filled in the indian bank etc.
Can we transfer a big amount say 20-50 lakhs online? or is it always below 10 lakhs. or say $ 10,000. Do we have to justify such as, proposed purchase of property in USA or to buy shares in USA or to gift an amount to a close relative etc. Is this limit for one year or only one time?
