I was out of the US from Dec 31st 2005 -Dec 6th 2006.
I worked only 10 days in 2006 ( dec 21-dec 31) and got a paycheck from my employer and with all taxes deducted, but I did not receive a w2 from him.
he stated that I was in the US for less than 183 days and not eligible to file taxes.
Can some one advise pls, whether I have to file taxes or not?
Thanks

not sure about this, you can always ask a CPA for these issues

If you do not need to file taxes, per your employer, then you should ask him why they deducted it frim your salary? If they deducted itm that means you should file a return and, maybe get a full refund from IRS.
Please check with your employer and talk to a tax expert.
All the best,

Thanks for the posts..
Interestingly in my next year's pay stub (Jan 2007) the amount from the dec 2006 paycheck is added in the YTD ...so it means taxes were paid for 2006 in 2007.
does it make sense?

The amount of your pay in Dec was added to Jan, or the taxes?

Why would your employer do that? I recommend that you clarify these things with your employer.
