Need help regarding port of entry

Hi,

My parents had written in DS-156 that their duration of stay would be 3 months. But now they wish to stay in US for 6 months. During port of entry if they ask for 6 months would they be granted entry for 6 months or will questions arise for asking 6 months entry.

At POE, when the IO asks them for the reason of their visit, they need to answer that they are visiting their children and want to do some tourism. If this is their first visit, normally they will be allowed to stay for 6 months.
