Visitor Visa & Air Ticket

My mom is about to visit me for the second time. Last time she got 6 months stay and left promptly before the stay period expires. This time I may go for an extension. My question is What Kind of Tickets Should I Buy? One year round trip are too costly. 6 months round trip ticket could not be extended to 1 year. One way ticket seems nice. But if asked to show the return ticket at the port of entry that would be a problem. Any adivse? Heard most of the guys are doing it. How do they manage this ticket part?

How about buy a regualr return ticket and once the visitor reaches US, you cancel the return ticket ? I am sure there will be some airlines which may provide this with some cancelltion charges.
