Hi,
My husband holds a H1B visa and came to US in Apr'04 and I joined him on H4 in Jul'04.We planned to invite my mother and she had an appointment in English at Chennai on 17th Sep'04.Her visa got rejected stating the reason to be 214(b).
The questions asked were :
1)Where does ur son in law work in US.
ABC company at ABC
2)What does ur daughter do in US.
House wife
3)What does ur husband do .
Taking care of my unmarried son.
4)How long do u need the visa.
6 months.
The visa was refused.
We had booked another appointment for her on 22nd Nov'04 in Tamil. This time we have planned to show my mother's bank statements showing her bank balance and few letters from doctor stating the health reasons of my grandparents to make sure that she will return. She didn't produce these docs during the first attempt. Also my parents own a house in Chennai but in my Dad's name. Can my mother produce this document during her next interview.Apart from this they do not have any other properties. My (younger)brother works for a software company at B'lore. Also I read a mail from Uma in Path2usa abt affidavits from the family members. Can anyone brief me on how it should look like.
Also is there any other way my mother can get an early appt because I need her help very much during the 3rd week of October.
Please help me out with ur valuable inputs.
Thanks in advance,
Jaya

Yes, so must prepare the financial statment/document for our mothers bank balance and property documents.
a simple affidavit from local notray can also be prepared, stating the her individual or joint ( mother father) owned property and its financial value. the format is very simple and local notary knows abt it.
About her responsiblities , add those 2 statment/lines in your letter to consulate as stating that "she has these ..( details) bondings and she is sure to go back with the time.
Anlayse the entire situation and must prepare her for the interview.
Feel free to come back on this board if you have nay more questions.
Request:
Kindly take a moment and update this information into path2usa visitor visa tracker at the following url.

Hi Murali,
Thanks for the reply. Also can u please tell me who is a notary and how should the affidavit look like?
One of my family well wisher is telling that we can send an email or write a letter to US Consulate in New Delhi,Indian Consulate in Washington and to the American Foreign secretary ,that I am in a depressed state and wants to see my mother desperately and rightnow I am not in a position to travel due to my health conditions requesting 30 days to 60 days of visa for my mother.
Please tell me if this is feasible and is there any downside if we wrote such mails/letters.
Thanks in advance,
Jaya

In India , notary services are available with local Advocate .
I am not sure whether your relative advise really work , thats not how US consulate wroks otherwise every second Indian will be US by getting such letters.
consulate officers have thier own way to make the judegement , its not that people who got rejected do not get visa there are many cased where people got the visa after 4 th attempt, the key is statisfying the offier with all the required documents and answering the questions.
Simple formate of a affidative for propery can something liks this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I applicant (Father/Mother) name , residing at [ full address]
I hereby declare that that I own the following property, with its market value listed as below:
Property Value
house Rs.
complete Address
Business/shop Rs.
complete Address
Other property/land/realestate
Fixed Deposits etc. Rs.
Bank account Rs.
Share/Stocks Rs
Total Rs
Place: City Name.
Date :
Sworn to before me.( notary Stamp/Signature)

Hi Murali,
My mother is appearing for the interview again. This time we have planned to produce the affidavit from the Notary. My parents own a house in Chennai but it's in my Dad's name.Apart from that she has only a bank balance(with a decent amount) along with a fixed deposit. My mother is a house wife.My Dad does not have a passport. Is it o.k if she includes her bank balance, FD details in her affidavit. Will it be sufficient. Please reply.
Thanks in advance,
Jaya

You should ask for assistance to the congressman in your area in US.
They would make a request on your behalf to the Chief consular.
Make sure you answer all the questions very specifically, dress up well and know what documents you are taking with you. Give smile or say hi nicely to the interviewer...
Sometimes these small things works.
Any questions are welcome.

Hello ,
My mother got her visa in the second attempt. Thanks a lot to Murali and other Path2usa members. She had attended the interview in Tamil this time. The questions that were asked to her were:-
1.What is the purpose of ur trip.
Tourism and to visit my daughter.
2.What is ur husband doing.
Business
3.Why is he not accompanying u.
Due to his business schedule.
4.How many children do u have.
Thats it.He didn't look into any of the docs which we had sent .In fact we had asked her to prepare affidavits abt the properties, family ties. She had carried her ration card copy, election id card and other bank docs. The officer just had a look at the DS-156 form and he said the visa was granted.Yet to know abt the visa details. Will post the same once my Mother receives her passport.
Thanks
Jaya

Hi Shuba,
I got the second apt for my mother on November 22nd 2004 initially.I kept on checking the TTS visas page to find earlier slots if any and finally found one on 8th Nov 2004.This is how it worked.Keep trying and watch out for earlier slots.
And my mother got her visa for 10 years.
Regards,
Jaya
