visitor visa duration stated in the application

Hi,

While preparing all the documents i have stated that my parents would be staying for 6 months. I assumed since that is the maximum they allow, it was okay to state 6 months. but now i am concerned after reading some of the posts here.
Will it matter or i should have stated a lesser time frame.
please advice.
