Hello,
I am going to India to get married in december 2004.I needed some information with regards to visa stamping in chennai.
I have an approval notice and I will be getting my H1b visa stamped in Chennai. Is it a possibility that my wife and I can go at the same time to get H1b and H4 stamped or will I be required to book two separate appointments?
If anybody could also tell me what documents I would be required to take I would really appreciate it.
If I have to get my visa stamped first, how many days will I need to wait before my wife can go for H4 stamping.
Any information will be highly appreciated.Thank you very much.

Yes you can both go together. A maximum of 10 applicants can go on the same appointment. But you have to add her when you take the appointment.

List of docs needed for H4 is mentioned on the chennai consulate website. you would need to have all of those.
Also, u can schedule one appointment for both of you. Please check the current wait times and plan accordingly.
Please check the following link - it has all information.

I want to add something here. I recently noticed that once you book your appointment date on the web you cannot really edit any other information other than the appointment date. The only way you can add your spouse now wld be to cancel your current appointment and then take a new appointment. Now the odds of not getting the same date when you book a new appointment are really high.So you need to be very careful while you plan.

This is based on my experiance. This may not be true in all cases. So plan accordingly.

Congratulations on ur marriage anyway.

Hi there,

We have pretty much the same case , but i am applying from Mumbai, the problem with Mumbai is that they require all the document 30 calendar days in advance to ur scheduled appointment day ..i.e u r marriage certificate, Photo Album of ur marriage and along with other details(DD and other forms). I am not sure abt the Chennai consulate,Do check their requirements. I had called Mumbai Consulate and they had said they cannot help in my spouse's case as i need to give them all the information before hand and not at the time of interview. So i am planning to go to the Delhi Consulate as they require all the documents only at the time of the Interview.

So do check with the chennai counsulate, they people at bombay do respond for emails and hopefully should be the same case for Chennai..

Hope this helps..
