SMS reply is : Passport not received by VFS

Hi all,

Two months back I got a 221(g) blue color and VO asked to drop all the doceuments from Petitioner and not to drop the Passport. one week back I have dropped all the docuements except Passport.

Today I have sent a SMS for status to 57333. I got reply from SMS is 'Passport not received by VFS'. Could any one know, what is the exact meaning of this.

Hi Srini,

I had dropped passport and docs last month.. i got visa stamped on nov 9th.
Well, regarding ur quest..
The reply will say 'Passport not received by VFS' which means ur docs are under review in Chennai Consulate, though it will be sent to chennai cons immediately after dropping docs at VFS.. this is how we get the reply.... even i used to get confused with this.. but later came 2 know that.. ur application status will change only after chennai consulate delivers it back to VFS.
So be patient and check once in 2 days..

You should use this facility (SMS) only when you submit your passport to the consulate. The service is used to track the delivery of the passport from consulate to VFS. Since you have not yet submitted your passport, this service is not helpful to you. If you want to have the correct status, call the consulate and enquire.

Yesterday I have called VFS chennai office. They said, 'we have sent your documents to consulate, once we get the reply from the consulate only we can give you the status. They said, still it was in review process.

Check this q & A on the VFS site. You can get the status of your passport only when your visa is approved and not before that.

Q. How will I get my passport back after the interview?
Once your visa is approved; Blue Dart courier will return your passport to you at the address in India specified by you. Allow up to seven business days for delivery after your interview. The cost of the courier is included in the service charge. To track status of your passport:

Go to home page click on link ‘Track Passport Delivery’ and follow the instructions.


Send a mobile phone SMS message to 57333 and type VISA <space> US <space> <passport number> (e.g. VISA US A123456)

Optionally, you can collect your passport across the counter via the ‘Counter Passport Collection ’
