Hi,
This site is of great help for me always.

I have a doubt in ECNR check in Passport.

In passport page there are 2 lines

1. ECR (Emigration Check Required ) except for Bangaldesh, Pakistan all counties in Europe and North America.

2. ECNR (Emigration Check Not Required)

In my passport 2nd line striked and in my fiancee's passport 1st line is striked. I am in US from past 5 years. What does it mean "get your ECNR checked" ? Is mine ECNR checked or my fiancee's ?

Thanks in advance
Naveen

persons with graduate degrees/professionals and other categories of indians are eligible for ECNR stamp.
For travelling to US and Europe u do not need to worry abt ECNR stamp.
In ur passport, the ECNR line has been striked out - that means ur under ECR category. (emigration check required).

While u're in the usa, u can get ECNR stamped by sending pp to any indian consulate in USA having jurisdiction over ur region. Check the website indianconsulate-sf.org. It takes only 3-4 days to get this done and costs $10.

For more information about ECNR - Check passports.nic.in - It has all details about ecnr eligiblity.
