Hi, I'm working here in US on L1 visa. We are expecting our baby early next year. I want to apply for Indian passport for my kid(after he is born, of course) and take him back to India as Indian citizen. Now, if the birth certificate issued here( by US govt.) will show his nationality as american? If yes, will it cause any trouble in having the kid educated in India, because in schools all they look for is the birth certificate? Can anyone please share their experience or knowledge on this subject.

Thanks.

Hi,

I was so happy to see ur comments that after a long tense few days, i felt relieved. Not 'cause I have found the answer but I know atleast one more person who is in same boat.

I have similar situation, where I am working in US on work permit and plan to go back to India Permanantely in probably some time. My daughter was born here last year, and now I am worried that since she is a US citizen (she has US Birth certificate)..when she goes back to india, how does she get education...first of all, elementry schools, 10th grade where u have to provide the birth ceertificate and finally higher studies...???

I was anxiously waiting on the Dual Citizenship anouncement but even though the details are not yet out, what i hear from media is that kids born in us and who have taken dual citizenship with india will have to pay NRI fees...??? I m concerned that it might not hamper the kids education in future...

Have you got a chance to discuss it with anybody yet...have you figured out a way out...i think its a good idea that we start talking to each other 'cause there are hardly any forums where u get such an info...and you can reach me at kaps_sanjay@yahoo.com
