how to carry insulin

my parents are travelling in nov 1st week to US.
my dad is diabetic n he is on insulin, so i advicsed him to get insulin stock for 6months. my question is how to carry this insulin while travelling , can he put the medicine in big luggage or can he carry with him in his cabin lugggage. any advice is highly is highly appreciated.

while i was travelling to US there was lady sitting next to me who was carrying the insulin with her in the cabin. But i am not sure if it is allowed.
