Name change

Hi,

My wife has changed her last name and the new H4 issued has her new name on it.
But her passport still has her maiden name,we will be going to India shortly for
stamping and do we need the new passport to reflect her new name in order to get
the stamping?.
If yes, can she get the new passport while being here in USA?,I've heard that I can
get the new passport from consulate offices in DC,Chicago etc., is that true?.
Are there any special things to take care of, while applying for the new passport?.

this process is not complicated check the respective consulate website - it has all information very clearly mentioned. takes abt 2 weeks only.

the old pp is cancelled and u get a new pp.
visa remains valid on old pp - u can go out of usa and re-enter with the visa on old pp .
In case u have no valid visa stamp ON OLD PP, then u must get the stamping on ur new pp.

The visa in the old expired passport is still valid. One should carry both passports when they enter the US. Persons who have changed their name based on marriage may use the old passport w/ the marriage certificate showing the new name in order to use the visa stamp on the old passport.
