Application for extension

I have a 3-month B1 visa expring on sept. 2004. i came to US last july 18 and was granted only a 5-day valid stay at POE. the date on my I-94 is July 25,2004. I have applied for an extension (though i have read that it's not advisable to apply immediately for extension because the officer may think of it as pre-planned act) of 3 months. INS already acknowledge receipt of my I-539 and said to allow 60-90 days processing. does this mean i can still stay while it's in process? did i make a right move of applying for an extension? can i go visit my relatives in another state while waiting for the INS approval/denial?

You may stay, here until it is under processing, however in case it is dened you must leave the country . Also this request to extension is also reflect in your record , so in future when you apply for next time, this may have negetive impact but not always.

However, another question left unadvised was "if i can go to another state to visit my relative?" while waiting for INS reply? i'm currently in the east coast and my relatives are on the west.

you can go to any state within USA, keep the copy of I-94 and receipt notice of the extension filed.
