Friends,

Wanted to share my conversation with vfs related to edits to form DS-156 for questions 1 -14. Please share your thoughts and advice what I need to do now. Can you guys try contacting vfs and see what you get?

I asked: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I am an Indian citizen currently residing in USA .

My parents have their appointment at Chennai consulate on x date for a visitor visa. Ther are some corrections in form DS-156 for questions in 1 -14 range and also questions 15 onwards. Can you please advise what I should do exactly.

The reason I asked this is on forums online I am reading conflicting steps ... for instance; "hand correct it" versus "attach a seperate note" etc.

So, please mention the exact steps I need to follow.

They replied: <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Modification on the application forms is not allowed from Q- 1 to Q-14 on the DS 156. Only from Q-15 onwards modification is possible. For DS-157 & DS-158, there are no such restrictions. If you wish to modify:

Logon to our website. Go to apply for a nonimmigrant visa.

Go to retrieve/modify option.
Enter the HDFC Bank details and retrieve your application.

You can then modify DS-156 from (Q-15 onwards), DS-157, DS-158 (if applicable) and petition details.

You can modify your application 2 days prior to your interview. The system will not allow you to modify within two days of your interview as the data will be downloaded and handed over to the Consulate. Any modification after that will have to be done at the Consulate at the time of your interview.

I asked: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

For questions 1 -14 below steps are my understanding of what needs to be done. Please confirm/correct as neccessary:

Logon to the website
Make changes to Q-15 onwards on the DS 156.
Take a print out of the modified form DS 156
Sign the modified form
Make manual changes to q1 - q14 (strikeout old answer and handwrite new answer)
At CHENNAI consulate, at the time of appointment, explain it to the person sorting application papers.

They replied: <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

"Kindly note modification in Q- 1 to Q-14 are not possible, either you can inform the consulate officer at the time of interview and do the changes in front of him, wherein the final decision will be that of the consulate officer to issue the visa or you may cancel the existing appointment and schedule an fresh appointment."

My comments to path2usa members:>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I was shocked with the last reply from VFS. I was thinking that for CHENNAI consulate (or for that matter any consulate other than Mumbai) we can hand-correct changes and someone other than the visa officer can enter those changes into their system. That way everything is set before the actual interview.

Those who have made changes to qn 1 -14, please share your experiences with exact details.
