Interpretator-Question

Hello,
My sis and mom are going to chennai for USA visitor visa. My mom is more comfortable in talking in kannada and my sis is comfortable in both english and kannada.
The question, can my sister act as an interpretator for my mother or should my mom get one from the US consulate?
Can someone inform please?

i am also planning to send my brother and my motherin law together for the interview so my brother can talk in english and speak also for my motherinlaw.i have no idea if this works out good.please advice me too..our's is a rejection for 2 times.so i donot want to take any more chances.please reply ASAP..............
