Does anyone know if I can open a checking account when I travel on a B1/B2, in the state of Massachussetts?

Usually the clerk/agent does not check your visa type and they don't have any idea about U.S. visa types. You only need to show them your passport and a proof of address and of course deposit some money to your account.

i am not sure if any banks will open an account for you without a SSN.

I know Wellsfargo opens account without SSN

Bank of America opens A/C without SSN. I think you need to update them with your SSN after 3months. Check with them.

Yes, you can open a bank account , Not all banks but many do allow to open.
