H1 Visa Stamping

I am in US on H1B from 2001. I recently got my H1B extension (in Jan 2004).
I am planning to visit India during Aug 2004. I need to get visa stampped.
I read this new rule of finger prints for visa applicants. How does this process work?
Do I have to go in person to the US counsulate in Chennai and get this done?
Do I have to take an appointment for this? As visa will be applied from Company through drop box, I am bit confused. Please advise.

There is published process as of now. I guess applicant need to make a person visit to the consulate to provide digital finger print and its very quick and easy though.
