Dear All,

My friend's parents just came from India. He told me the story. First time his parents were rejected. Why ? They chose a Marathi translator as they were not confident to speak in English. The Translator asked 'as you have chosen Marathi translator, and your Invitation letter is in English, how do you know whether your son has really invited you ? You are rejected.' I think those people should be punished in the public who are jealous of US going people. Second time, his parents gone to the American person. He asked few typical questions for which they were prepared and finally got the visa.

These people are very moody, they do not look at any document you brought, they just ask few stupid questions and judge their own.. Immovable property!!! No ties with country !! Gosh ! Do they look at property papers or even a summary at all ? Some people say, consulate person has to handle 70 perosns in a day.. so what.. It's their duty to see each and every thing which is said 'required'. Do they ? No. They are just making dollars! I know, few people once come to US never go back. True NRI! Never Return to India !!! !But how much persent ? Due to them also we all suffering.

Our middle class parents have their dreams for which they never have thought in their entire life. Due to few sarcastic people in the consulate they really get frustrated and pissed off.

I think we should sue them thru consumer court.

People come out with all sort of stories when they are rejected. Did you actually hear the conversation?. Take such absurd stories with grain of salt. First of all "translators" are Indian nationals employed by the embassy. They have NO authority on visa decisions. So what your friend told you was just a story.
Secondly, counsular officer is just doing his JOB. If he sees that majority don't come back, then why take risk. Reject when in doubt.
Tell me one thing, wouldn't you use a condom if the partner is likey to be HIV+?? (Assume you are doing it).
So what if everybody is not HIV+, but when in doubt you would use protection.
Its the same logic that works with them.

They asked for Marathi interpreter, even though all the documents were in English. Uncle & aunt both SPOKE english in the interview. They got the visa because:
(1) They had Green Cards previously but got it CANCELLED legally in Embassy few months back.
(2) All the documents were arranged methodically, clearly for the consular officer to sort out.
They were only asked question about previous Green Card status, why they asked for interpreter when they can talk/read/write in English. Thats it they got 10 yrs visa.
BTW, they said even though they knew English but may not be comfortable understanding American accent. Secondly, they cancelled their Green Cards becuase they are no more interested in immigarting to USA as their children are all well settled there and they( uncle & aunt) are having a GREAT retirement life in India. They did however agree that they did plan on immigrating to US earlier.

I was going thru this forum and found this one. My perents also asked for marathi interpreter and they also had similar experience. What ever questions he asked to my parents he was not transleting completely to the other officer. Since my father could understand what he was saying he asked him to translet completly and properly. He must have got hurt! He rejected visa to my parents. Mr. Shantanu, don't ask me now that I haven't 'heard' that conversation. My parents told me that. BTW what absurd examples you are giving in this forum ? grow-up!

The example I gave you was my own example ( with my relatives ).
It also highlights the need for being "organized" & "methodical" in presenting the documents.
With due respects to your parents,BTW, if your parents said that the interpreter was not doing his job properly why didn't they object then and there?.
Now don't tell me they realized this while sipping on the coffee the following morning?.
Your very own "story" lacks common sense.
